This is a study with which I assisted. _______________________________________________________ Nationwide verbal SAT scores fell to their lowest level in years on the most recent administration of the test, and the College Board, which administers the SAT,has an explanation: Average SAT scores fell slightly for 2011 high-school graduates, as the number of test takers and the proportion of minority students grew, according to areport released on Wednesday by the College Board, which owns the test. |

Republican Rep. Pat Garofalo's resume includes being the chairman of the House Education Finance Committee and being the chief sponsor of the omnibus K-12 spending bill that conservative Republicans opposed. Now he can add a good relationship with theMinneapolis Star Tribune to that list. In an article today that talks about unity and compromise (Read: Republicans should give in to the Democrats and raise taxes/spendings)authored by LoriSturdevant (Click hereif you want to read it), Sturdevant writes: |

This refers back to the 3.29.11 post on the bloated education omnibus bill. Three legislators voted against it: Reps. Steve Drazkowski, Tom Hackbarth and Mark Buesgens. If you would like to thank them for taking a stance to limit government, you may e-mail them at This legislation will be coming to the state Senate next.

Bill Reichert, Communications Director for the Minnesota Voters' Alliance, sent me an e-mail suggesting that I disseminate some information about the budget legislation being proposed in the Legislature. Sue Jeffers has also been vocal about this issue, as has Ed Liberty Watch (check outhttp://edlibertywatch.org for more information). An unfortunate reality that we face is that while many of the freshman legislators we elected last November are fairly conservative and right-of-center, many of those in the Legislature's Republican leadership are a little more liberal and left of those elected more recently. |
