For those keeping track, these are the results from Saturday’s national delegate elections. The top twelve contestants were elected. I was unable to record results for the candidates Tracy Ries or Don Evanson, but the other 33 candidates placed as follows. Though Don Huizenga placed in 13th place, his vote total fell below the 50 percent threshold required to win. Rather than going to a second ballot, Don endorsed Rep. Michele Bachmann (who placed 14th), and the delegation elected her by acclamation. |

After redistricting placed both state Sens. Al DeKruif and Julie Rosen in the same legislative district, DeKruifannounced he would step down and allow Rosen to hold the seat without a challenge. That is unfortunate for conservatives. Julie Rosen has been promoting the growth of government since she joined the Senate in 2002. Legislators like Mary Franson who consistently advocate for less government are taking the hits for Republicans while legislators like Julie Rosen spend their time in office actively trying to raise taxes and spending. |

This is a piece authored by Charley Shaw of the St. Paul Legal Ledger/Capitol Report. He graciously included my analysis in the piece. The 22-person list of congressional memberswho voted againstSpeaker Boehner's budget legislation deserve to be thanked. (Two of them were from my own state of Minnesota: Michele Bachmann and Chip Cravaack. South Carolina had us beat, though, as all five of their Republicans opposed the legislation.) I would not have necessarily voted against his final product, which included a balanced budget amendment. However, if those 22 members believe that Republicans could get a better end result by proposing an even better package, I am happy to stand behind them. |

This is my latest column. It is available on RenewAmerica byclicking here. It will be coming up on IntellectualConservative and NewsWithViews as well. Bachmann's Tumultuous Road to the Lead The rivalry between presidential contestants Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty is a display to be appreciated by conservatives. So is Ms. Bachmann's ability to motivate a usually-inattentive media to focus on conservative ideas. For Minnesotans, it is noteworthy that the state's two flagship newspapers have taken to running analyses of the couple's differences with near-daily regularity. |

John Boehnerfinished up with the Democrats last evening in partially accepting their terms in budget negotiations. They changed the number of cuts from $33 billion to $38 (or $39 by some accounts) billion. The deal could have been worse; I would like to see more of the facts before passing judgment. The plus side is that Boehner did a far better job than Minnesota Republicans. That said, one of our congressional Republicans still didn't think much of the deal. Neither did Rand Paul. (Click here. |
