As reported in the media, Pat Shortridgeis the new chairman of the Republican Party of Minnesota (RPM). He was elected with 224 votes, or 66% of the total delegation.Terry McCallreceived 103 votes.Todd McIntyrereceived just nine votes. What I found interesting is that, while legislative leaders and party operatives (paid officials or people who are seeking to become paid officials) supported Shortridge, members of the Republican Party’s State Executive Committee and leaders within the party supported McCall by a slight edge. |

As referenced in my previous post, Pat Shortridge said that his career working for former House Majority Leader Dick Armey credentialed him as a real conservative. Armey clearly had sufficient credentials to be elected as a Republican, but did he really support limited government? Shortridge, running for chair of the Minnesota Republican Prty, said that he worked for Dick Armey for over 10 years, and wrote the following of his time with Armey’s office: I saw the good things that happen when Republicans work effectively on behalf of their principles. |

In the last week, Terry McCall and Pat Shortridge joined the race for chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party. (Shortridge is pictured at left.)I have never met Shortridge, but I have noticed the media favors him.Click hereto see Doug Grow writing for MinnPost about how he expects him to win. Doug's credentials as an informed member of the GOP may be in question, but maybe we can still appreciate his wisdom as a member of the press corps. In addition to Todd McIntyre, it looks like McCall and Shortridge will round out the field of candidates for chairman of the Republican |
